about the working on a tourist visa thing, that's how it is here too. it sounds weird but maybe that's the procedure when you want to work in an underdeveloped country.

Deb: I checked with the Chinese consulate, and the procedure is that they send a request to the embassy near you, you fill them out, and when you get to China you have to do a whole bunch of stuff: a physical exam followed by going to hong kong to pick up the visa, followed by the school applying for a permanent working visa...I guess the guy at the school was too lazy >:(
